July 4 is my favorite holiday. I love celebrating our country and its history, especially all the things it was founded on, partisanship aside. I also love celebrating it in a new way with different people each year. In the last five years, I’ve been to Charlotte, (twice),  Washington, D.C., Paris and now Raleigh. And I’ve loved all of them. 

Every summer, I make this pie. It’s a simple whipped cream cheese base. The recipe calls for strawberries, but I have been known to deck out this pie with cherries, blueberries, blackberries and raspberries as well. This year, instead of alternating and layering the strawberry slices and blueberries in circles around the pie, I went for a more stars and stripes approach. Because I believe in impeccable food presentation, I’m really pleased with how it turned out!
